Pedestrian Accidents in Connecticut

Pedestrian accidents are a growing concern in Connecticut, especially along busy corridors, where both vehicle and foot traffic are constant throughout the day. These incidents often occur suddenly and can leave victims with severe injuries or long-term complications. Understanding why these accidents happen can help drivers and pedestrians stay alert and prevent future tragedies.

Common causes of pedestrian accidents include:

  • Distracted driving, such as texting or using a phone while behind the wheel
  • Failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks
  • Speeding in residential or high-traffic areas
  • Poor visibility due to weather conditions or nighttime driving
  • Drivers making unsafe turns or running red lights
  • Pedestrians crossing outside designated crosswalks
  • Impaired driving caused by alcohol or drugs

In many cases, both driver negligence and pedestrian inattention contribute to accidents. However, drivers carry a greater responsibility to maintain awareness and ensure pedestrian safety, particularly in city environments like Hartford, where intersections are often congested and sidewalks run close to the road.

Pedestrians who are hit by vehicles may face significant medical expenses, time away from work, and emotional distress. Seeking guidance from an experienced pedestrian accident attorney can make a major difference. A skilled lawyer can help investigate the accident, establish liability, and pursue compensation for medical care, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
