Windsor, CT (January 14, 2026) – A two-car collision with injuries caused significant delays on Interstate 91 north in Windsor on Wednesday morning, January 14. The crash occurred around 7:34 a.m. and led to the closure of two right lanes between exits 36 and 37, as reported by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and while congestion was heavy in the area, the lanes were reopened by 8:45 a.m., once the crash had been cleared.

According to the Connecticut State Police, only minor injuries were reported from the incident. A wrecker was also called to the scene to remove the vehicles involved.

Authorities did not immediately release further details about the crash’s cause, but traffic was able to resume relatively quickly after the incident. The investigation into this crash remains active.

Is There a Time Limit to File an Injury Claim After a Crash in Connecticut?

If you are injured in a car accident in Connecticut, it’s important to know that there is a time limit to file a personal injury claim. In Connecticut, the statute of limitations for personal injury claims resulting from a car accident is generally two years from the date of the crash.

This means you must file a lawsuit within two years of the accident if you wish to pursue compensation for your injuries. If you fail to file within this time frame, you may lose the right to seek damages for your medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related costs. It is crucial to act promptly, as the clock starts ticking the moment the accident occurs.

While two years is the general rule, there are some exceptions, especially if the case involves specific circumstances. For instance, if the accident involves a government vehicle or entity, a shorter time limit may apply, and you could be required to file a notice of claim much sooner than two years.

This is why it’s essential to consult with an experienced car accident attorney as soon as possible after an accident. A lawyer can help ensure that all necessary paperwork is filed within the required time frame and prevent any delays in pursuing your claim.

Additionally, the statute of limitations for filing claims against insurance companies can be different. Connecticut’s no-fault insurance system allows you to file a claim with your own insurance provider for medical expenses and lost wages, regardless of fault.

However, there are still deadlines that must be met for filing PIP (Personal Injury Protection) claims, and failing to submit your claim within the allotted time may result in losing benefits.

Consulting with a lawyer early on in the process can help you understand the specific time limits that apply to your case. They can guide you through the claims process, answer any questions, and make sure you meet all required deadlines.
