Basement Fire on Woodland St Leaves 1 Injured

Bristol, CT (February 11, 2026) – Emergency units responded to a reported basement fire at a home on Woodland Street on Wednesday morning, February 10. Crews arrived shortly after 9:00 a.m. at a 2.5-story wood-frame dwelling in the 300 block.

Firefighters observed light smoke coming from the residence upon arrival. Crews stretched multiple lines and began interior operations. During the response, EMS was requested for one person suffering facial burns.

Authorities confirmed a single burn victim at the scene. Paramedics transported the injured individual by ALS to Bristol Hospital for treatment. Officials later reported that primary searches throughout the home were negative.

The Bristol Fire Department crews located the fire at the rear of the residence, in the basement. Crews operated several hose lines to control the flames. Responders also de-energized the electrical panel to secure the structure.

Emergency personnel evaluated other occupants at the scene. Three individuals declined medical treatment after assessment. Officials requested the Fire Marshal’s Office to assist with the investigation. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

Our thoughts remain with those affected as recovery efforts continue.

5 Steps to Take After a Residential Fire in Connecticut

After a residential fire in Connecticut, several important steps can help protect your safety, health, and documentation. Key actions often include seeking medical evaluation, securing the property, documenting the damage, notifying your insurance company, and keeping organized records. Taking these measures early can help reduce complications later.

Medical evaluation should always come first, even if injuries appear minor. Smoke exposure and burn injuries may not fully present symptoms right away. A medical visit helps identify hidden issues and creates treatment records. These documents often become important during follow-up care and insurance reviews.

Securing the property is another critical step. Fire damage can weaken structures and create safety hazards. Utility systems may require inspection before re-entry. Limiting access can help prevent further damage or injury.

Documenting the damage also plays a major role in the recovery process. Photos, videos, and written notes can help capture conditions before cleanup begins. Insurance companies frequently request detailed evidence. Clear documentation helps support claims and repair estimates.

Notifying your insurance provider promptly allows the claims process to begin. Insurers may explain coverage, inspections, and repair procedures. Keeping records of expenses, repairs, and temporary housing costs can help avoid disputes. Organized paperwork often leads to smoother claim handling.

A personal injury attorney can help explain how insurance claims and liability questions may apply after a residential fire. Legal guidance may assist with reviewing policies, organizing documentation, and communicating with insurers. An attorney can also explain what types of compensation may be available depending on the circumstances.
