What Damages Are Available to Pedestrians Hurt in a Crash in Hartford, CT?

In Connecticut, a pedestrian hurt by a vehicle can seek several types of compensation through a personal injury claim, depending on the circumstances of the crash. Damages typically fall into two broad categories: economic and non-economic. Economic damages cover measurable financial losses such as medical bills, future treatment costs, lost wages, and rehabilitation expenses. Non-economic damages address the less tangible effects of an injury, including pain, emotional distress, and reduced quality of life.

Pedestrians struck by vehicles commonly face broken bones, head injuries, spinal trauma, and soft tissue damage. Some of these injuries require extended treatment and may affect a person’s ability to work or carry out daily activities for months or longer. Documenting injuries thoroughly from the outset helps establish the full scope of damages in a claim. Key documentation includes all medical visits, imaging, and follow-up care.

Connecticut follows a modified comparative fault rule, meaning a pedestrian can still recover compensation as long as they are found to be 50% or less responsible for the crash. Even in cases where fault is disputed, legal guidance from a pedestrian accident attorney can help clarify what options remain available.
