Car Accidents in Connecticut

Car accidents occur often at busy intersections across Connecticut. Intersections create multiple conflict points where drivers cross paths, merge, or turn, which increases the chance of a collision. Even at lower speeds, a moment of inattention can result in a crash and cause injuries.

Several common factors contribute to intersection crashes. Drivers may misjudge the speed of oncoming traffic or fail to see another vehicle approaching. Congestion and frequent stops make it harder for drivers to anticipate sudden movements. Weather also plays a role, as rain, fog, or glare can reduce visibility and increase stopping distances.

Frequent reasons these accidents happen include:

  • Distracted driving causes drivers to overlook traffic signals or approaching vehicles.
  • Failure to yield, especially when drivers turn without allowing enough space for oncoming traffic.
  • Speeding reduces control in tight intersections and shortens reaction time.
  • Improper lane use, such as drifting between lanes or turning from the wrong position.
  • Weather conditions, like wet roads or sun glare, make it harder to see and stop safely.

Understanding these risks helps drivers stay alert and avoid preventable crashes. However, even cautious motorists can be injured when another person makes an unsafe decision.
