Problem: This was a low speed parking lot accident that took place at a Hartford convenience store, where the defendant backed into my client hitting her driver-side door.  Although the property damage wasn’t huge, the impact caused her whiplash type injuries.  The carrier did not want to pay for her medical bills after she was seen for neck and back muscle stiffness and headaches (related to her muscle spasms).  Her accident related medical charges totaled $2,474, and she owed a few hundred dollars after her insurance kicked in.

Process: The client really only wanted to be treated fairly by the at fault person’s insurance company, and wasn’t looking to take advantage of the system.  She wanted her medical bills taken care of and a little bit of money for the aggravation and inconvenience of being in an accident, going to her medical appointments, and dealing with an insurance company.

Solution:  I took over the case.  After speaking with the client and understanding her goals, we came up with a tailor made plan for her situation.  We eventually settled the matter for $4200.00. The client was very happy with the outcome as her medical bills were taken care of and she had some money in her pocket for her time and inconvenience.  All of her tailor made case goals had been met.

Remember, just because your property damage and injuries are minor, does not mean you won’t need an attorney. My client thought by being reasonable the other side would be reasonable too. Sometimes they will, unfortunately for her, that didn’t happen until she hired me.
