Compensation That Victims Can Recover After a Car Accident in Connecticut
Victims injured in a car accident in Connecticut may be able to recover compensation for several types of losses. These may include medical expenses, lost income, property damage, and other costs connected to the accident.
Medical costs often represent the largest portion of accident-related expenses. Injuries from car crashes can require emergency treatment, hospital stays, follow-up visits, physical therapy, and medication. Connecticut law allows injured individuals to pursue compensation that may help cover these healthcare expenses when another party’s negligence contributed to the crash.
Lost wages may also become an important factor after a serious accident. Some people need time away from work to recover from injuries or attend medical appointments. In situations where injuries affect a person’s ability to return to their previous job, compensation may also address reduced earning capacity.
Car accidents can also create property damage and other financial losses. Repair or replacement of a damaged vehicle often becomes part of an insurance claim. In addition, victims may face transportation expenses, rehabilitation costs, and other accident-related expenses during recovery.
Connecticut law follows a modified comparative negligence rule. This means a person may still recover compensation even if they share some responsibility for the accident, as long as they are not more than 50 percent at fault. The final compensation amount may be adjusted based on the percentage of responsibility assigned to each party.
