Who May Be Liable After a Pedestrian Accident in Hartford, CT?
When a vehicle strikes pedestrians at a city intersection, establishing liability typically comes down to whether the driver failed to exercise reasonable care. In Connecticut, drivers are required to yield to pedestrians at marked and unmarked crosswalks. If a driver was speeding, distracted, or failed to observe traffic controls at the time of the wreck, that conduct can form the basis of a negligence claim. Injured pedestrians may be eligible to pursue compensation for their injuries through a personal injury claim.
Albany Avenue is one of Hartford’s most heavily traveled urban corridors, running northwest through the city and into West Hartford and Bloomfield. These zones see consistent pedestrian activity throughout the morning hours. Intersections along Albany Ave are particularly active, with foot traffic from nearby residential neighborhoods, convenience stores, and bus stops that bring people to the curb throughout the morning.
Injuries like leg fractures and head trauma can carry high medical costs and recovery timelines. A leg injury can require surgery, physical therapy, and extended time away from work. Forehead and left-side injuries can involve concussions or internal trauma that may not be fully apparent in the hours immediately after a collision. Thorough medical documentation from the outset is important for any potential claim.
Connecticut also recognizes that pedestrian crash victims may be entitled to compensation even when they share some degree of fault for what happened. Under the state’s modified comparative negligence rule, a person can still recover damages as long as they are found to be less than 51 percent responsible for the crash.
A abogado de accidentes peatonales can help evaluate how fault may be assessed and what that means for each person’s potential recovery.
