Bloomfield, CT (April 1, 2026) – Two people were injured and displaced after a house fire on Tunxis Avenue in Bloomfield on Monday, March 30. The fire started around 10:20 p.m. and affected the rear of the home before spreading toward the kitchen area.
El Bloomfield Fire and emergency units arrived and worked quickly to control the flames. Crews brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes, limiting further spread inside the house. Officials said the damage forced both occupants to leave the home.
Both individuals suffered smoke inhalation during the fire. Paramedics treated them at the scene before taking them to Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford for further care.
Authorities have not shared additional details about the extent of the damage or the condition of the occupants. Investigators are reviewing the scene to determine how the fire began.
We hope those affected recover fully and are able to return to normal as soon as possible.
Can Smoke Inhalation Symptoms Appear Hours Later After a Fire in Connecticut?
Yes, smoke inhalation symptoms can appear hours after a fire, even if a person feels fine at first. In many cases, exposure to smoke irritates the lungs and airways, and symptoms may develop gradually. This is why medical evaluation after a fire is important, even when injuries seem minor.
People exposed to smoke may later notice coughing, shortness of breath, headaches, or throat irritation. In some situations, harmful gases in smoke can affect oxygen levels in the body. Follow-up medical visits help track these symptoms and allow providers to recommend treatment if needed.
Connecticut laws often require property owners to follow fire safety standards, including working smoke detectors and safe building conditions. When a fire leads to injuries, these factors may be reviewed to understand whether safety requirements were met. Documentation, including medical records and fire reports, can help clarify how the incident occurred and how it affected those involved.
