Bicycle Accidents in Hartford

Bicycling is a popular and eco-friendly way to travel throughout Hartford, but it also exposes riders to significant risks when sharing the road with cars. Even a low-speed collision can lead to severe bicycle accident injuries because cyclists lack the physical protection of a vehicle.

Victims of car and bicycle collisions often suffer from a range of injuries that may require long-term medical care and rehabilitation. Some of the most common injuries include:

  • Head and brain injuries: Even with a helmet, cyclists can suffer concussions or traumatic brain injuries if they hit their head on the ground or a vehicle. These injuries may cause memory loss, dizziness, and long-term cognitive problems.
  • Fractures and broken bones: Collisions often result in broken arms, legs, wrists, or ribs as cyclists fall or try to brace themselves during impact. Recovery can take weeks or months, sometimes requiring surgery or physical therapy.
  • Spinal cord injuries: The force of being thrown from a bicycle can cause severe back or neck trauma. In serious cases, this may lead to partial or total paralysis.
  • Internal injuries: Impact from a car or the pavement can damage internal organs and lead to internal bleeding, which may not be immediately visible but can be life-threatening.
  • Road rash and lacerations: Riders frequently suffer abrasions and deep cuts when skidding across the asphalt. These wounds can cause infections or permanent scarring if not properly treated.

These types of injuries can change a victim’s life—impacting their ability to work, enjoy daily activities, and maintain their independence. The emotional and financial toll can be just as devastating as the physical injuries.
