Pedestrian Accidents in Hartford

Pedestrian crashes remain a serious problem throughout Connecticut, particularly in urban areas like Hartford, where vehicle and foot traffic are heavy. Even at lower speeds, a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian can cause devastating injuries and emotional trauma.

Common causes of pedestrian accidents include:

  • Driver distraction: Texting, using GPS, or eating behind the wheel can cause drivers to miss pedestrians crossing the street.
  • Failure to yield: Many pedestrian crashes occur when drivers ignore crosswalks or fail to stop at intersections.
  • Speeding: High speeds reduce reaction times and increase the severity of impact.
  • Poor visibility: Nighttime conditions, rain, or dimly lit streets make it harder for drivers to see pedestrians.
  • Impaired driving: Alcohol or drug use continues to play a role in many pedestrian-related collisions.

Victims of pedestrian accidents often suffer serious harm, including fractures, head injuries, and internal trauma. The recovery process can be lengthy, with significant medical expenses and emotional distress.
