7 Steps to Take After a Car Accident in Connecticut

First, seek medical attention as soon as possible after a crash. Some injuries do not appear immediately but can develop hours later. A medical evaluation creates early records connecting symptoms to the accident.

Next, contact the police so officers can create an official crash report. This document records the location, involved vehicles, and statements from those present. Insurance companies often review police reports when evaluating claims.

You should also move to a safe place if vehicles remain in a dangerous position. Standing near active traffic increases the risk of another crash. Safety should remain a priority while waiting for assistance.

If you can, gather evidence from the scene while conditions remain safe. Photographs of vehicle damage and road conditions help preserve useful details. Witness names and contact information can also support later reviews of your accident and your case.

It is also important to exchange information with the other driver involved in the crash. Drivers typically share insurance details, vehicle registration, and contact information. Keep these records organized when communicating with insurers.

You should notify your insurance company about the accident as soon as possible. Early reporting allows insurers to begin reviewing the incident. Clear communication can help prevent confusion during the claims process.

Before agreeing to any settlement, you should consider contacting a car accident lawyer. An attorney can review documents, investigate the crash, and communicate with insurance companies on your behalf.
