Do I Need a Lawyer After a Traffic Accident in Hartford, CT?
After a traffic accident in Hartford, consulting with a lawyer is strongly recommended, especially when injuries are serious or fault is unclear. Connecticut follows an at-fault insurance system, meaning the driver responsible for causing the crash bears financial responsibility for the resulting injuries and damages. Understanding how that process works can be difficult without legal guidance.
Connecticut gives injured people two years from the date of a crash to file a personal injury lawsuit. While that window may seem generous, starting early matters. Evidence disappears quickly; surveillance footage gets overwritten, witnesses become harder to locate, and physical evidence from the scene changes. An attorney can help preserve critical documentation and begin building a case while the details are still fresh.
Serious injuries like fractures, seizures, and trauma-level conditions often require extended medical care. Surgery, rehabilitation, and follow-up treatment can generate significant costs over time. Lost income during recovery adds further financial pressure.
A personal injury lawyer can review medical records, crash reports, and insurance correspondence to help identify what types of compensation may be available — including coverage for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering under Connecticut law.
