Why Medical Records Matter After a Crash in Simsbury, CT

Hopmeadow Street is one of the primary north-south corridors through the Farmington Valley, and multi-vehicle crashes along this stretch can leave people dealing with injuries that require ongoing medical care. When that happens, the records generated throughout that treatment process become some of the most valuable documentation a person can have. Medical records establish a direct link between the crash and the injuries sustained, which is a connection that is central to any personal injury claim.

In Connecticut, insurance companies and opposing attorneys will scrutinize the timeline between a crash and a person’s first medical visit. A gap in treatment or missing records can be used to argue that injuries were not serious or were unrelated to the accident. It helps build a clear and consistent picture of how the crash affected your health to keep thorough records. This includes emergency room reports, follow-up visits, prescribed medications, physical therapy notes, and any imaging results.

It is also worth noting that medical records are not always automatically preserved. Hospitals and providers in Connecticut are generally required to retain adult patient records for a minimum period, but those timelines vary. It is advisable to request copies of your records early, and keep them organized to ensure nothing is lost or unavailable when it matters most.

A car accident attorney can help identify which records are most relevant to your situation and advise on how to obtain them. Legal guidance can also clarify what other documentation may strengthen a potential claim.
