Injury Head-On Crash Closes Rt 44

West Hartford, CT (June 24, 2026) – Two people were hurt on Tuesday morning, June 23, in a head-on collision on Route 44 near Albany Avenue, just east of Renbrook School.

The wreck happened around 8 a.m. and caused heavy damage to both vehicles involved.

Two patients were treated, with one requiring advanced life support transport to St. Francis Hospital. The other person’s condition was not released as of this report.

Route 44 was closed in both directions between Nod Road and Ferncliff Drive for about two hours while crews and West Hartford Police worked at the location.

Authorities continue to look into what led to the crash.

We are thinking of both people as they recover.

What Mistakes Should Drivers Avoid After a Head-On Crash in West Hartford, CT?

After a head-on crash, drivers should avoid admitting fault at the location, skipping a medical evaluation, or posting about the crash on social media before speaking with an attorney.

Another common mistake is accepting a quick settlement offer from an insurance company before the full extent of an injury is known. Head-on collisions often cause injuries like spinal damage or internal bleeding that can take days to fully present, which is part of why early offers rarely reflect the true cost of recovery.

People hurt in this type of crash can face broken bones, head trauma, or long-term mobility issues, especially when advanced life support transport was needed at the scene, as it was in this case.

Waiting too long to take legal action is another mistake to avoid. In Connecticut, injured drivers generally have two years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury claim, and missing that window can mean losing the right to seek compensation altogether.

Avoiding these missteps is often easier with the right guidance early on. A car accident lawyer can help with gathering documentation, understanding the claims process, and clarifying what types of compensation may be available under Connecticut law, even while the cause of the collision is still being looked into.
