How To Get a Police Report After a Crash in Windsor, CT

After a crash in Windsor, one of the first practical steps is obtaining a copy of the police report. In Connecticut, crash reports filed by state or local police are generally available to those directly involved, this includes drivers, passengers, and their legal representatives. Requests can typically be submitted online through the Connecticut Records Request portal or in person, depending on which agency responded. There is usually a small fee involved, and processing times can vary.

Interstate 91 is the main north-south corridor through Hartford County, and the stretch near Windsor and exit 37 sees consistent traffic volume throughout the day and into the night. Crashes along this corridor are handled by Connecticut State Police, who file their own reports separate from local municipal departments. Knowing which agency responded to a specific crash is an important first step before submitting any records request.

Insurance companies habitually request this document early in the claims process, and a car accident lawyer can use it as a starting point when reviewing what options are available to someone who was hurt.

A police report plays a meaningful role in a personal injury claim. It typically documents the date, time, and location of the crash, the vehicles and people involved, witness information, and any preliminary findings about what happened.
