What Damages Can a Motorcyclist Recover After a Crash in Hartford, CT?

A motorcyclist hurt in a crash in Hartford or throughout Connecticut, may be eligible to recover several categories of compensation depending on the circumstances of the collision and the severity of their injuries. Damages generally fall into two broad categories: economic and non-economic.

Economic damages cover measurable financial losses. This includes medical bills, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, and future earning capacity if the injury affects the rider’s ability to work long-term. Non-economic damages address the harder-to-quantify impact of the crash, which includes pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of enjoyment of daily life.

Connecticut is a fault-based state. In other words, the driver that is responsible for causing the accident can be held liable for the losses suffered by the person they injured.

When a head injury results in a traumatic brain injury, the long-term consequences can include cognitive difficulties, personality changes, chronic headaches, and an inability to return to work. These ongoing effects are compensable, and accurately capturing their full scope requires thorough medical documentation gathered over time, not just from the initial hospital visit.

A motorcycle accident attorney can help identify all available sources of compensation, work with medical professionals to document the full extent of your injuries, and negotiate with insurance companies on your behalf. Legal guidance can clarify what your claim may be worth and what steps are needed to protect your rights.
