Newington, CT (December 23, 2025) – A deadly crash involving a passenger vehicle and a public transit bus claimed the life of a young driver on Monday, December 22, in Newington. The collision occurred on East Cedar Street near Lowery Place and prompted a large emergency response.
Newington police officers arrived at the scene around 11:18 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash. Authorities confirmed that the collision involved a Honda Civic and a CT Transit bus traveling through the area. Emergency responders immediately focused on assisting those involved.
Police identified the driver of the Honda Civic as 20-year-old Zackariah Berlepsch of Glastonbury. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital with severe injuries. Despite medical efforts, he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The CT Transit bus driver also suffered injuries during the collision. Officials described those injuries as minor, and medical staff treated the driver at a local hospital. Two passengers riding on the bus at the time of the crash did not suffer injuries.
Officers secured the scene and began documenting evidence shortly after the crash. The Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Squad has taken over the investigation and continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash as they work to determine what led to the collision.
