Three Cars Collide at Norwich Rd & Academy Hill Rd Resulting in 2 Injured

Plainfield, CT (December 22, 2025) – Two people sustained injuries following a three-car crash on Saturday, December 20, at a busy intersection in Plainfield. The collision occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Norwich Road and Academy Hill Road, according to local authorities.

Police reported that a silver Kia Sportage traveled westbound on Academy Hill Road and approached the intersection with a flashing red traffic signal. After stopping, the driver proceeded into the intersection. At the same time, an Eversource utility truck traveled northbound on Norwich Road under a flashing yellow signal and entered the intersection.

The utility truck struck the front driver’s side of the Kia, causing a secondary collision. Following the initial impact, the Kia then struck a third vehicle, a blue Audi Q5, which was traveling southbound on Norwich Road. The force of the crashes caused significant damage to all three vehicles.

Emergency responders arrived quickly to assist those involved. Ambulance crews transported two drivers to the Plainfield Backus Emergency Care Center for evaluation of suspected minor injuries. Police did not report any life-threatening injuries in connection with the crash.

The Plainfield Police Department, Plainfield Fire Department, and American Legion Ambulance all responded to the scene. Authorities continue to review the incident as part of an ongoing investigation.

We wish the injured individuals a full and timely recovery.

Car Accidents in Connecticut

Intersection crashes remain a common cause of injury across Connecticut, especially in areas controlled by flashing traffic signals. Car accidents at these locations often occur when drivers misjudge right-of-way rules or fail to notice other vehicles entering the intersection.

Several factors may contribute to multi-vehicle intersection crashes, including:

  • Confusion over flashing red and flashing yellow signals, which require different driver responses
  • Failure to yield the right of way when entering or crossing traffic
  • Limited visibility caused by surrounding vehicles or roadway design
  • Distraction while approaching intersections, including looking away from the road
  • Assumptions that other drivers will stop or slow down

When several vehicles collide, the risk of injury increases due to multiple points of impact. Even crashes involving moderate speeds can cause neck, back, and soft tissue injuries. Some symptoms may not appear right away, which makes medical evaluation important after any intersection collision.

Beyond physical injuries, crashes can disrupt daily life through vehicle damage, missed work, and added stress. Understanding what led to the accident can help injured individuals make informed decisions about their next steps.

Legal guidance may provide clarity during recovery. An experienced car accident attorney can help review accident reports, explain how fault determinations affect claims, and outline available legal options. Each case depends on the facts, including traffic signals, driver actions, and supporting evidence.
