Bristol, CT (January 9, 2026) – A bicyclist died on Thursday, January 8, after being struck by two vehicles on Birch Street in Bristol, according to Bristol police. One of the vehicles involved reportedly fled the scene following the crash.
Police said the crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Birch Street. Officers responded to reports of a bicyclist who had been hit by a vehicle believed to be a gray or silver SUV. After the initial impact, the cyclist was struck by a second vehicle traveling through the area.
Authorities identified the victim as 36-year-old Tomek Paluch, a Bristol resident. When police arrived, they found Paluch trapped underneath the second vehicle involved in the crash. Officers immediately began lifesaving efforts while waiting for medical assistance to arrive.
Medics arrived and continued emergency care at the scene. They initially transported Paluch to a nearby landing zone for a LifeStar air ambulance. Due to changing conditions, crews diverted to Bristol Hospital instead. Despite continued treatment, Paluch was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said the first vehicle involved left the area before officers arrived. The second driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Police have not shared information about what led up to the collision. Authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash as part of an active investigation.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Tomek Paluch.
What Documentation Is Needed To File A Wrongful Death Claim In Connecticut?
After a fatal crash in Connecticut, families often have questions about what paperwork is needed to pursue a wrongful death claim. While every case is different, certain documents are commonly required to begin the process. Having these records organized can help clarify what options may be available under state law.
One of the most important documents is the official death certificate. This record confirms the cause and date of death and is often required when filing claims or dealing with insurance companies. Families may also need copies of medical records related to emergency care or hospital treatment provided before death, if applicable.
Police reports play a key role in wrongful death cases involving crashes. These reports document where the incident happened, which vehicles were involved, and any preliminary findings. In cases involving a hit-and-run, police records may also include witness statements or ongoing investigative notes. Keeping a copy of all available reports can be helpful.
Proof of financial impact is another common requirement. This may include employment records, pay stubs, or tax documents that show lost income or benefits. Families may also gather invoices for funeral and burial expenses, as these costs are often part of wrongful death claims in Connecticut.
Additional documentation may include insurance policies, correspondence from insurers, and photos or videos related to the incident. Each piece of information helps provide context about the loss and how it has affected surviving family members.
