Bloomfield, CT (March 14, 2026) – On Thursday, March 12, authorities identified the man who died following a house explosion and fire earlier that week on Banbury Lane in Bloomfield. Officials confirmed the victim as 71-year-old Thomas Moore, who was the only person inside the home at the time of the incident.
The explosion occurred on Banbury Lane around 6 p.m. on Monday, March 9. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after reports of a blast that triggered a house fire. When responders arrived, they found the residence heavily damaged and engulfed in flames.
Firefighters attempted to reach the occupant inside the structure. However, the fire and the collapse of parts of the home made access difficult during the early response.
Authorities later found a body within the debris during recovery efforts. Crews recovered the remains at approximately 1:20 a.m. and contacted the state medical examiner to assist with the identification process.
Police later confirmed the victim as Thomas Moore, who lived at the residence. Investigators said Moore was the sole occupant inside the home when the explosion occurred.
Initial information suggests the explosion may be linked to a possible gas leak. The Bloomfield Police Department continues to investigate the exact cause of the explosion and fire.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Thomas Moore.
What Compensation May Be Available After a Fatal House Fire in Connecticut?
Families may seek compensation for funeral and burial expenses after a fatal house fire. These costs often include funeral services, burial arrangements, cremation, and memorial ceremonies. End-of-life expenses can arise quickly after a sudden loss.
Some victims receive emergency medical treatment before they pass away. Medical bills may include ambulance transport, hospital care, burn treatment, or intensive care services. Families may still face these costs even when the victim later dies.
The loss of a household income may also affect surviving relatives. A fatal fire can remove wages that once supported daily living expenses. Compensation claims may consider earnings the deceased likely would have provided over time.
Household contributions may also carry measurable value. Many people manage childcare, home maintenance, and caregiving responsibilities. Their absence may require family members to arrange outside help.
Loss of companionship may affect spouses, children, and close relatives. A loved one’s presence often includes guidance, daily interaction, and emotional support. Legal claims sometimes recognize the absence of these family relationships.
Residential fires often destroy personal belongings inside the home. Furniture, clothing, electronics, and important documents may be lost in the flames. Insurance claims or legal actions may address the value of damaged property.
Structural damage to the residence may also create financial challenges. Homes may require demolition, rebuilding, or extensive repairs after a fire. Property losses may become part of a compensation claim.
UM advogado de homicídio culposo may investigate the cause of the fire, collect evidence, and review available records. An attorney may also help the family understand their legal options and the steps they can take moving forward.
