Bristol, CT (February 8, 2026) – One person died on Saturday, February 7, after a house fire on Perkins Street in Bristol. The incident occurred around 8:26 a.m. when a city plow driver reported smoke coming from a home in the 200 block.
Emergency units arrived and found heavy smoke emerging from the chimney. Crews entered the structure and discovered an active fire in the basement. Firefighters quickly began suppression efforts to contain the flames.
During a search of the home, rescuers found one occupant in the kitchen area. They removed the victim and provided emergency medical aid. Despite immediate care, the person later died from their injuries.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity. Firefighters extinguished the blaze shortly after 9 a.m. as crews cleared remaining hot spots to prevent re-ignition.
Investigators remained at the scene to assess fire damage and gather evidence. The Bristol Fire Department and Bristol Police Department both responded and assisted with scene coordination.
The Bristol Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate what may have caused the fire.
We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this challenging time.
What Steps Can I Take After a Fatal Fire in Connecticut?
Request the official fire report, police report, and death certificate as soon as possible. These records confirm when the fire occurred and include verified findings. They form the foundation for understanding what happened and who was involved.
Gather and preserve all possible evidence before it changes or disappears. Save photos, videos, inspection records, and written communications tied to the fire. Avoid discarding damaged items or repairing the property until a full review is complete.
Contact your insurance company promptly, but keep communication brief and factual. Do not sign documents or agree to settlements before speaking with a advogado de homicídio culposo. Early discussions can affect coverage and claim value.
Keep a clear record of all expenses related to the fire. Include funeral costs, property damage, and loss of income. Track emotional and lifestyle changes as well, since they can affect future legal options.
A lawyer can help determine who may be held responsible for the fire. An attorney can evaluate reports, handle insurance communication, and explain your legal options.
Connecticut law sets time limits for filing wrongful death claims. Missing these deadlines can restrict your ability to pursue action. Your lawyer can calculate your filing window and prepare the necessary paperwork on time.
