Manchester, CT (December 2, 2025) – Firefighters responded to a late-night apartment fire in Manchester on Saturday, November 29. Crews received an automatic alarm at about 11:01 p.m. from a 24-room tenement on Foster Street. When firefighters reached the building, they saw flames burning on the first floor. Smoke spread quickly through the structure, and several residents could not get out on their own.
Firefighters entered the building right away and rescued three people who were trapped inside. One person needed extra help, so crews used a ladder truck to bring them down safely. Medical teams checked all three victims at the scene. Officials said one rescued resident suffered non-life-threatening injuries and went to a local hospital for treatment. Firefighters then knocked down the fire and stopped it from spreading further.
The Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate what started the fire and how it spread.
We hope the injured resident recovers fully, and investigators are still working to confirm the cause.
Apartment Fires in Connecticut
Apartment fires can harm people in seconds, even when the flames stay in one part of a building. Tenement-style properties often have shared halls, older wiring, and tight living spaces. These factors can make escape harder during a night fire. People may wake up disoriented, trapped by smoke, or blocked by heat. In many cases, residents suffer injuries while trying to flee, not only from direct flames.
Victims in apartment fires may face a wide range of injuries, including:
- Burns to the skin from flames or hot surfaces
- Smoke inhalation that irritates the lungs and limits oxygen
- Carbon monoxide exposure that causes dizziness or loss of consciousness
- Traumatic brain injury from falls, collapsing objects, or sudden impact
- Neck and Back Injuries from jumping, slipping, or getting struck during escape
- Broken bones or sprains from stairway falls in low visibility
- Deep cuts from shattered glass or debris
- Eye damage or breathing issues from toxic fumes
- Severe anxiety, sleep problems, or trauma after the event
Some injuries show up right away. Others grow worse hours later, especially breathing problems. Anyone exposed to heavy smoke should get medical care, even if they feel fine at first. Doctors can spot hidden issues before they become life-threatening.
Families also face major disruption after a fire. They may lose housing, clothing, medications, and personal items. They often need help dealing with insurance claims and figuring out who may be responsible.
If unsafe wiring, missing alarms, blocked exits, or poor building maintenance played a role, residents may have legal options. A skilled advogado de danos pessoais can gather reports, interview witnesses, and push for compensation tied to medical bills, temporary housing, lost income, and long-term care.
