What Information Should You Exchange After a Crash in Ledyard, CT?

After a two-vehicle crash in Ledyard, the information exchanged at the scene can directly affect what options are available later. At a minimum, each driver should collect the other party’s full name, phone number, home address, driver’s license number, license plate number, and insurance information, which includes the carrier name and policy number. If the vehicle is registered to someone other than the driver, that owner’s name and contact information should be collected as well.

Witnesses can also be a valuable source of information. If anyone stopped or was nearby when the crash happened, it is advisable to collect a name and phone number before leaving the scene. In crashes where fault is disputed, an independent witness account can carry significant weight.

If you want to seek compensation for your losses, it is important to know that in Connecticut, the statute of limitations for personal injury claims is generally two years from the date of the crash. That means a person hurt in a collision typically has two years to file a claim before they lose the right to seek compensation through the courts.

While two years may seem like a long window, it takes a lot of time to build a strong case, and if you wait too long, it can make it harder to gather evidence, locate witnesses, and document the full extent of injuries.

UM advogado de acidentes de carro can help explain how the information collected at the scene fits into the broader picture of a potential claim. If details were not exchanged at the time, or if the other driver provided incomplete information, legal guidance can clarify what steps may still be available.
