Common Injuries Motorcyclists Suffer After a Crash in Southington, CT
Head injuries are among the most serious outcomes in motorcycle crashes on Southington roads. Trauma to the skull and brain can result from impact with a vehicle, the road, or a fixed object. Even riders wearing helmets may sustain concussions or brain injuries depending on the force involved.
Road rash occurs when skin contacts pavement during a slide or ejection on local streets. Abrasions range from minor scrapes to deep wounds that damage underlying tissue. Severe cases carry a risk of infection, nerve damage, or permanent scarring.
Motorcycle crashes can also cause bone fractures across multiple areas of the body. Riders often extend their arms during a fall, leading to wrist, hand, and forearm breaks. Impact with a vehicle or road surface can also fracture the legs, hips, collarbone, and ribs.
Spinal cord injuries can result from the forces involved in a motorcycle collision. Damage to vertebrae or surrounding nerves may cause chronic pain, limited mobility, or partial paralysis. Some spinal injuries produce no immediate symptoms, making early medical evaluation important.
Internal organ damage does not always produce visible signs after a crash. The force of impact can injure the liver, spleen, kidneys, or lungs without external wounds. Internal bleeding from these injuries can become life-threatening if left untreated.
The long-term effects of motorcycle injuries can extend well beyond initial recovery. Some riders face permanent physical limitations that affect their ability to work or perform daily tasks. Ongoing treatment, rehabilitation, and assistive equipment can create financial strain over time.
