Teen Cyclist Hospitalized After Crash on Bassett St

New Britain, CT (June 29, 2026) – A teenage cyclist was hospitalized on Sunday night, June 28, after being struck by a vehicle near Bassett Street and Franklin Square.

Emergency crews and New Britain Police rushed to the scene around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection. The teen was initially unresponsive after being struck, but later regained consciousness and was mostly alert during transport.

The vehicle involved sustained significant damage to its windshield. The teen was taken by ambulance to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for treatment.

It is not clear what led to the collision. The investigation into how the crash occurred is still underway.

We are thinking of the teen and their family as they navigate this recovery.

What Should Parents Know About Bicycle Accident Claims in New Britain, CT?

Parents of a child struck while riding a bicycle in New Britain generally have the right to pursue a claim on the child’s behalf against the at-fault driver’s insurance. Connecticut law allows a parent or guardian to file suit as next friend of a minor, and the statute of limitations for a minor’s personal injury claim is generally tolled until they turn 18, which gives families added time to act.

Cyclists struck by vehicles can usually suffer head trauma, fractures, and internal injuries, particularly when the impact is significant enough to damage a vehicle’s windshield, as happened in this case. Recovery can involve hospitalization, follow-up scans, and physical therapy, and head injuries in particular may require ongoing monitoring even after a child appears alert.

It is crucial to preserve evidence such as witness accounts and any available surveillance footage near the crash scene, since it can be useful in establishing how the crash occurred and for a possible future claim. Connecticut follows a modified comparative negligence rule that allows recovery as long as the injured party is found less than 51% at fault. A advogado de danos pessoais can help families understand how to pursue compensation while the investigation continues.
