Serious Wreck Injures One on I-84 E

West Hartford, CT (July 4, 2026) – One person suffered serious injuries on Friday night, July 3, after a crash shut down lanes on Interstate 84 Eastbound near Exit 39A in West Hartford.

Reports indicated that the injured person remained unresponsive after the wreck. Early information also pointed to multiple ejections during the crash. Emergency units responded after the crash was reported at 10:20 p.m.

Crews closed the eastbound lanes while investigators completed reconstruction work and responders cleared the scene. Officials have not yet released the names or ages of those involved. The Connecticut State Police continue to review what led to the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured person and their loved ones during this difficult time.

How Is Fault Determined After a Car Accident in West Hartford, CT?

Fault after a car accident in West Hartford is determined by reviewing police reports, witness statements, and details gathered from the scene. These records can help show who caused the wreck, and Connecticut’s comparative negligence rule can affect how much an injured person may recover.

Once a fault comes under review, insurance adjusters typically dig into the same evidence investigators use. They may study skid marks, vehicle damage, road conditions, and any available traffic camera footage. Because this crash reportedly involved ejections, speed and seatbelt use may also become important questions.

In West Hartford, Interstate 84 carries a heavy volume of traffic, and the area near Exit 39A sees additional flow from New Britain Avenue and nearby local roads. Merging traffic, changing speeds, and multiple vehicles can make fault harder to determine after a highway crash.

Even if you were partly at fault, you may still be able to recover compensation in Connecticut. Any recovery may be reduced based on your share of fault. Strong evidence can help show how the crash happened and support your claim.

After you see a doctor, you should keep every record connected to your treatment. Medical notes, bills, photos, repair estimates, and dashcam footage can help support your claim. A police report can also preserve key facts before memories fade or evidence becomes harder to find.

When an insurance company questions fault, clear documentation can help protect you. A car accident lawyer can review the crash details and explain how comparative negligence may apply. An attorney can also help you understand which records, reports, and evidence may matter most.
