Pedestrian Hurt in Hit-and-Run Semi-Tractor Crash on I-291 East Off-Ramp at Rte 5

South Windsor, CT (March 24, 2026) – A pedestrian suffered injuries after a semi-tractor struck them on Tuesday, March 24. The accident occurred around 5:45 a.m. on the off-ramp from I-291 East at Route 5, also known as John Fitch Boulevard.

South Windsor Police and emergency units responded after reports that a large truck hit a pedestrian near the ramp area. Responders arrived and quickly began providing medical assistance to the injured person.

Paramedics evaluated the pedestrian at the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that the injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Officials said the vehicle involved was a bobtail semi-tractor, meaning the truck was traveling without a trailer attached. After the crash, the driver left the scene without stopping.

Police said they are searching for a larger red semi-tractor with a sleeper-style cab. Investigators believe the truck continued traveling after the collision and left the area before authorities arrived.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash and ask anyone with information to come forward.

Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian, and we hope for a smooth and steady recovery.

Does Auto Insurance Cover Pedestrian Injuries in South Windsor?

Yes, auto insurance can cover pedestrian injuries in South Windsor, but each case should be studied carefully, since coverage depends on the type of insurance policies involved and the circumstances surrounding the accident.

When a vehicle strikes a pedestrian in South Windsor, the driver’s liability insurance may help cover certain damages. This coverage can include medical expenses, lost income, and other costs connected to injuries caused by the crash. Connecticut requires drivers to carry liability insurance, which often becomes a key part of injury claims after a pedestrian accident.

In some cases, the injured pedestrian’s own insurance policy may also play a role. Many auto policies include uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. This type of coverage may apply when the driver leaves the scene or when the responsible driver does not carry enough insurance to cover the full cost of injuries.

South Windsor pedestrian accidents often lead to serious medical issues because people have little protection during a collision with a vehicle. Common injuries may include fractures, head trauma, internal injuries, and soft tissue damage. Medical visits, imaging tests, and follow-up treatment often become important parts of recovery and documentation.

South Windsor insurance claims following a pedestrian accident can sometimes involve multiple policies and detailed documentation.

Medical records, accident reports, witness statements, and photographs of the scene often help explain what happened and how injuries occurred. Organized documentation can help clarify how the crash affected the injured person and what treatment was required.

Legal guidance may help people understand how these insurance rules apply to their situation. A pedestrian accident lawyer can review accident reports, medical records, and insurance policies to explain available options. A lawyer can also discuss whether compensation could be available depending on the circumstances surrounding the accident.
