Three-Vehicle Crash Closes Rte-354 in Salem, CT

Salem, CT (June 22, 2026) – Route 354 was shut down after a three-vehicle wreck near Witter Road Sunday evening, June 21. Emergency units were called just after 7:00 p.m. for a report of a two-vehicle wreck on Old Colchester Road. Once on scene, the first officer confirmed three vehicles were involved with heavy damage.

All occupants had gotten themselves out of the vehicles before responders arrived. Two patients were taken to Backus Hospital in Norwich for treatment. A third person involved chose not to be taken to the hospital.

The Connecticut State Police responded to assist at the scene. The roadway reopened by 8:08 p.m. once the wreck was cleared.

The investigation remains active.

We hope those hurt have a smooth recovery.

Why Is Ongoing Medical Care Important After a Crash in Salem, CT?

To follow through with medical care after a wreck like this matters, even when injuries seem minor at first, since conditions like whiplash, concussions, or soft tissue damage can take days to fully present themselves. Additionally, treatment gaps can weaken any claim that may be pursued after a car accident.

Gaps in the medical record can make it harder to show how a crash actually affected someone’s health over time when it comes to a claim. This becomes especially relevant in a multi-vehicle wreck, where determining how each impact contributed to a person’s injuries commonly depends on consistent documentation from a doctor or physical therapist.

Continued treatment also helps establish a clear timeline that connects the wreck to injuries that develop or worsen afterward, which matters in a state like Connecticut, where comparative negligence rules mean every detail about cause and severity can affect what a person recovers.

Gaps in care are sometimes used to argue an injury wasn’t serious or wasn’t related to the crash at all, so it’s important to keep appointments, follow a provider’s recommendations, and seek early legal guidance from a car accident lawyer to protect both your health and your rights.
