Wethersfield, CT (October 4, 2025) – Two young men tragically lost their lives after a violent rollover crash on Friday night, October 3, on Route 5/15 North near Exit 85 in Wethersfield.
Shortly before midnight, an Infiniti traveling north left the left lane, struck a guardrail, and rolled down a steep embankment. The force of the crash scattered debris across the highway and left the car damaged deep in the woods.
Firefighters arrived and found two passengers, 25-year-old Joshua Gonzalez of Springfield, MA, and 21-year-old Edwin Guzman of Chicopee, MA, with catastrophic injuries outside the vehicle. Crews used ropes to reach them, pulled them from the wooded area, and rushed them to Hartford Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite doctors’ efforts, both men later died from their injuries.
Troopers said the 22-year-old driver, also from Springfield, had only minor injuries and refused medical care. During the scene investigation, police suspected impairment. They conducted field sobriety tests and arrested the driver for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on October 6.
The Connecticut State Police are leading the investigation and urge anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Joshua Gonzalez and Edwin Guzman during this challenging time.
