Trooper Hurt in Crash on I-84 Shoulder

Manchester, CT (November 25, 2025) – A Connecticut State Police trooper suffered injuries after a crash on Interstate 84 in Manchester on Monday, November 24. The collision happened in the westbound lanes while the trooper sat inside a patrol cruiser parked on the right shoulder of the highway.

Connecticut State police said another vehicle struck the cruiser as it remained on the shoulder. The impact injured the trooper, whose crews were transported to a local hospital. Doctors reportedly listed the injuries as minor. The other driver also suffered injuries, and medical workers checked that person after the crash. Officials have not released more details about the driver’s condition.

Police reported that they made an arrest connected to the collision. They have not identified the person or explained the charges yet. Additional troopers arrived soon after the crash and began a full investigation at the scene.

Investigators are still reviewing how the crash happened, and the case remains active.

We wish the trooper and the other driver a full and steady recovery.

Car Accidents in Connecticut

Crashes on busy highways can lead to injuries even when vehicles are not moving fast. Shoulder collisions are especially dangerous because drivers may drift out of their lane with little warning. Troopers, tow truck workers, and stranded drivers face added risk any time they stop along the roadside.

Several factors often play a role in interstate crashes. Drivers may glance at a phone, adjust a radio, or look down for a moment and drift right. Others may speed or follow too closely, leaving no safe space for sudden lane changes. Weather can also matter. Rain, fog, or glare from the sun can reduce visibility and make it harder to spot a stopped vehicle in time. On highways, small mistakes can cause major harm because traffic moves very rapidly.

Even minor injuries from crashes can disrupt life. People may deal with neck and back pain, soft tissue injuries, or concussions that take weeks to heal. A person might miss work, struggle with daily tasks, or need follow-up treatment.

When a crash involves a police cruiser, investigators will look closely at driver behavior, lane position, and any signs of impairment or distraction. Any arrest in a case like this may point to serious safety concerns.

If you get hurt in a highway crash, it helps to understand your legal options early. A car accident attorney can review the crash report, gather witness statements, and handle calls from insurance companies. That support matters when insurers try to downplay injuries or push a quick settlement before you know the full cost of recovery.
