What Should I Do if I Was Hurt in a Traffic Accident in Connecticut?
If you were hurt in a traffic accident in Connecticut, the first thing you should do is seek medical attention right away. Getting evaluated by a doctor creates an official record that connects your injuries to the crash, which can matter greatly if you decide to pursue a legal claim later.
Crashes involving large commercial vehicles like tractor-trailers tend to cause some of the most severe injuries on the road. The sheer size and weight of these trucks mean that when they collide with a passenger car, the force of impact is enormous.
Victims in these accidents commonly suffer spinal injuries, broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, and serious internal trauma. In cases where a car becomes pinned or trapped, injuries can be even more severe, and recovery may take weeks, months, or longer.
After getting medical help, several practical steps can protect your options going forward. Try to keep copies of all medical records, bills, and any correspondence with insurance companies. If you are able to, take photos of the scene and your injuries.
Avoid giving recorded statements to insurance adjusters before speaking with an attorney. Insurance companies often move quickly after serious crashes, and having legal guidance early can help level the playing field.
Crashes involving tractor-trailers are legally more complex than standard car accidents. Multiple parties may share responsibility, including the truck driver, the trucking company, or even the cargo loader. A truck accident attorney can review the details of your case, identify who may be liable, and explain what compensation may be available for medical expenses, lost wages, and other losses.
Connecticut law generally gives injury victims two years from the date of the accident to file a claim, so acting promptly helps preserve your options.
