How Long Do Families Have to File a Wrongful Death Lawsuit in Windsor, CT?

In Connecticut, families generally have two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Missing that deadline typically means losing the right to seek compensation entirely, regardless of how strong the case may be. For families dealing with grief and medical or funeral costs, that window can pass faster than expected.

Crashes involving tractor-trailers tend to produce severe outcomes due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles. When a passenger car becomes caught beneath a truck, the forces involved are almost always fatal.

After someone is killed in a crash, families may have the opportunity to pursue a wrongful death claim, depending on each case. Wrongful death claims in Connecticut can seek compensation for funeral and burial expenses, the value of lost financial support, and the loss of the deceased’s earning capacity over their expected lifetime.

When a commercial truck is involved, the liable parties may include the truck driver, the trucking company, and potentially a cargo loader or vehicle maintenance provider. A wrongful death attorney can help identify all possible sources of recovery and what evidence may be needed to support the claim.

At L.A. LAW, our team works with families in Hartford County and across Connecticut who have lost someone in a serious truck accident. We have extensive experience handling wrongful death claims and helping families understand what their options may be.
