What Should Drivers Know About E-Bike Crashes in Enfield, CT?
Drivers that share the road with e-bikes in Enfield should know that Connecticut law treats e-bikes similarly to traditional bicycles, which means they’re entitled to many of the same protections under the state’s vulnerable road user laws.
Route 5 is a busy commercial corridor that intersects with several other well-traveled roads in the area such as Hazard Avenue, which see steady bicycle and e-bike traffic during warmer months. Drivers that turn onto or off Route 5 need to stay alert, since intersections are common points of conflict between vehicles and smaller, harder-to-see e-bikes.
E-bike riders involved in crashes with cars frequently face injuries such as fractures, road rash, head trauma, or soft tissue damage, even at relatively low speeds. Because e-bikes offer little protection compared to a car, the forces involved in a collision can lead to serious harm that sometimes isn’t fully apparent until hours or days later.
A personal injury lawyer can help injured victims in these types of crashes understand their legal options. An attorney can review the details of the collision, gather evidence, and explain what types of compensation may be available for medical expenses and other losses under Connecticut law.
