How Long Do I Have to File a Car Accident Claim in Southington, CT?

In Connecticut, a person generally has two years from the date of a crash to file a personal injury lawsuit for injuries from a car accident, under the state’s statute of limitations. That deadline applies to claims against the at-fault driver.

Victims that miss the filing deadline typically lose the right to pursue compensation altogether, regardless of how clear the fault or how serious the injuries turned out to be. This is part of why gathering evidence early, such as traffic camera footage, witness contact information, and medical records, matters even when injuries are initially described as minor, since soft tissue injuries from a ramp collision can take time to fully present.

When multiple vehicles are involved, sorting out which driver’s actions caused which part of the chain reaction can take time, and Connecticut’s modified comparative negligence rule still allows a driver found 50% or less at fault to recover damages. A car accident lawyer can be useful in keeping track of these deadlines while also working through the fault analysis in the background.
