Bloomfield, CT (November 20, 2025) – A pedestrian died early Wednesday morning, November 19, after a dump truck hit him on Woodland Avenue near West Newberry Road. The crash happened around 6:20 a.m., prompting a large emergency response from the Bloomfield Police Department, medics, and accident reconstruction teams.
When officers arrived, they found the victim unresponsive on the ground with severe head trauma. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene a short time later. Police have not released the victim’s identity, as they continued making next-of-kin notifications through the afternoon hours.
A short time after the crash, officers located the involved vehicle—an International 2000 Series dump truck—near Woodland Avenue and Wintonbury Avenue. According to police, the driver told investigators they were unaware a collision had occurred. The driver has cooperated fully with the investigation.
The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Team responded to examine the scene and gather evidence. The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles Truck Squad also carried out a full commercial vehicle inspection of the dump truck. Woodland Avenue remained closed for part of the morning while crews worked, but the roadway has since reopened.
Police stated that accident reconstruction specialists continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision. No charges have been filed at this time.
We offer our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
Pedestrian Accidents in Connecticut
Pedestrian accidents remain a major safety issue throughout Connecticut, especially in areas where heavy vehicles such as dump trucks, delivery trucks, and utility vehicles travel through residential neighborhoods. When a large commercial vehicle strikes a pedestrian, the consequences are often catastrophic. Pedestrians have no protection, and even low-speed collisions can lead to fatal injuries.
Pedestrians struck by trucks often suffer severe or fatal trauma, including:
- Head injuries, which may include skull fractures or traumatic brain injuries caused by direct impact.
- Chest and abdominal injuries often result from the force of a large vehicle hitting the upper body.
- Spinal injuries, including fractured vertebrae or spinal cord damage that can cause permanent disability.
- Broken bones, especially in the legs, arms, and ribs when a pedestrian is thrown to the ground.
- Internal injuries can lead to life-threatening bleeding that requires immediate medical care.
In many pedestrian deaths, families are left with sudden grief and unanswered questions. A knowledgeable wrongful death attorney can help families understand what happened, review investigative reports, and evaluate whether negligence played a role. Legal support is especially important when commercial vehicles are involved, as these cases often require detailed inspections, witness interviews, and expert analysis.
A compassionate attorney can also handle communication with insurance companies, gather evidence, and guide families through the legal process while they focus on healing.
