The collision happened near the intersection of Ward Street and Washington Street. The Departamento de Policía de Hartford and emergency responders arrived soon after the report came in.
Officers said a white Chevrolet struck the pedestrian and then sped away from the scene. Paramedics treated the injured person and took them to a nearby hospital for continued care. Police did not release the pedestrian’s name or condition. They also have not shared the driver’s identity.
Witnesses at the scene told officers that the vehicle left right after the impact. Responders secured the area, looked for debris, and spoke with people who saw the crash. Investigators also began searching for cameras that may have captured the vehicle or its license plate.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to locate the driver.
We hope the injured pedestrian receives steady care and a full recovery.
Accidentes de peatones en Connecticut
Pedestrians face serious risks on city streets, especially at busy intersections. When a driver fails to notice someone crossing, even at low speed, the result can be life-changing. In many cases, these crashes happen because drivers make quick mistakes or take unsafe chances. Some drivers also flee because they panic or fear legal trouble.
Possible reasons pedestrian crashes and hit and runs may occur include:
- Drivers speed through intersections and do not stop in time.
- A driver turns without checking for people in the crosswalk.
- Distracted driving, such as looking at a phone or navigation screen.
- Poor visibility from rain, darkness, or blocked sight lines.
- Pedestrians crossing while drivers run red lights or ignore signs.
- Impaired driving from alcohol, drugs, or extreme fatigue.
- Drivers who panic after impact and choose to flee.
Connecticut has many areas where foot traffic meets fast-moving vehicles. Drivers may deal with tight lanes, parked cars, and heavy afternoon flow. These conditions raise the need for patience and focus.
When a pedestrian crash happens, the injured person may face medical bills, time away from work, and lasting pain. If police find the driver, or if other coverage applies, a personal injury claim may help recover damages. Compensation can include hospital costs, follow-up care, lost income, and emotional suffering. A abogado de accidentes de peatones can also help review police reports, gather video evidence, and handle insurance talks.
