Common Causes of Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Connecticut
Multi-vehicle crashes often begin when a driver follows too closely in heavy traffic. Limited stopping space leaves little room to react when vehicles ahead slow down, and one sudden brake can set off a chain reaction.
Speeding also plays a role in many pileups. Higher speeds increase stopping distance and reduce a driver’s ability to adjust to traffic changes. Even a small delay at high speed can involve several cars within seconds.
Unexpected traffic slowdowns on highways such as I-84 or I-95 frequently contribute to multi-car collisions. Congestion can build quickly during peak travel hours, and drivers who cannot respond in time may strike the vehicle in front of them.
Driver inattention remains another common cause. A brief distraction can delay braking just long enough to cause impact. In dense traffic, that delay can affect multiple vehicles almost instantly.
Unsafe lane changes and improper merging also increase risk. Abrupt movements between lanes may force nearby drivers to react suddenly, which can lead to side-impact crashes that spread across several cars.
Weather conditions affect road safety as well. Rain, fog, and snow reduce visibility and tire traction, making it harder to judge distance and maintain control on wet or icy pavement.
A abogado de accidentes de coche can review crash reports, speak with witnesses, and analyze available evidence to determine fault. An attorney may also work with accident reconstruction professionals to clarify how the sequence of events unfolded.
