Legal Rights After a Hit-and-Run Crash in Connecticut
After a hit-and-run crash in Connecticut, injured victims may still have legal options even if the driver leaves the scene. State law requires drivers to stop and provide information after an accident. When a driver fails to do so, victims can often turn to uninsured motorist coverage for financial support.
Connecticut drivers typically carry uninsured motorist coverage as part of their auto insurance policy. This coverage may help pay for medical bills, lost income, and other damages when the at-fault driver cannot be identified. Filing a claim often requires medical records, proof of the crash, and timely notice to the insurance company.
Police reports and witness statements also play an important role. Officers may review nearby surveillance footage, speak with witnesses, and gather physical evidence from the scene. Strong documentation helps support both an insurance claim and any potential legal action if authorities later identify the driver.
In serious injury cases, recovery may involve hospital stays, follow-up visits, and ongoing therapy. A abogado de lesiones personales can review insurance policies, explain available benefits, and outline what types of compensation may apply under Connecticut law. Legal guidance can also help manage communication with insurance adjusters.
