What Are the Most Common Injuries After a Bicycle Accident in Groton, CT?
Bicycle accidents in Groton can result in serious injuries because cyclists have no physical protection when a vehicle strikes them. Head trauma, broken bones, spinal injuries, and deep lacerations are among the most common injuries doctors see after these crashes.
Head injuries are a leading concern in bicycle collisions, even when the rider wears a helmet. A strong impact can cause concussions, traumatic brain injuries, or skull fractures that may not be immediately apparent. Symptoms such as headaches, confusion, or memory issues sometimes appear hours or even days after the accident.
Spinal and orthopedic injuries are also common after a car-versus-bicycle crash. Riders often land hard on the pavement, which can fracture vertebrae, break arms or legs, or damage joints.
These injuries frequently require surgery, extended physical therapy, and a long recovery period that keeps victims away from work and daily activities.
Internal injuries present another serious risk that emergency responders prioritize at the scene. Blunt force from a vehicle can damage organs without leaving visible external marks. This is one reason why immediate medical evaluation — and in severe cases, air transport — is so critical after a bicycle collision.
Connecticut law allows bicycle accident victims to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. The strength of a claim often depends on how well injuries are documented from the very beginning. Keeping all medical records, imaging results, and treatment notes organized from day one gives a clearer picture of the full impact of the crash.
