Norwich, CT (May 19, 2026) – A two-car crash shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 395 in Norwich on Monday, May 18, at approximately 6:58 p.m. Policía Estatal de Connecticut and emergency units responded to the scene after reports came in of at least one person trapped.
First responders arrived at 7:07 p.m. to find one vehicle in the center median and another off the right shoulder. Rescue crews worked quickly to free the trapped person, completing the extrication by 7:16 p.m.
Additional units staged nearby on Salem Turnpike before being released from the scene. The northbound lanes of Interstate 395 remained closed for a period following the crash. Emergency crews reopened the high-speed lane at 7:39 p.m.
Even though injuries were confirmed, authorities have not released details on the number of people hurt or the severity of their conditions. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
