Do I Need to Inform My Insurance Company After an Accident in Norwich, CT?

Yes, in Norwich and throughout Connecticut, you are required to notify your insurance company after a crash, and most policies require you to do so promptly, within 24 to 72 hours. Failing to report an accident on time can give your insurer grounds to deny your claim, even if you were not at fault.

Connecticut follows a fault-based insurance system, meaning the driver who caused the crash bears financial responsibility for injuries and damages. After notifying your insurer, stick to the basic facts of what happened. Avoid giving recorded statements or accepting early settlement offers before speaking with an attorney. Organized records throughout the process also helps. Save all medical bills, correspondence with your insurer, and any paperwork related to the accident.

Connecticut law grants injured victims two years from the date of a crash to file a personal injury lawsuit, so seeking legal guidance from a abogado de accidentes de coche early gives you more time to build a complete picture of what happened.
