Can Passengers Seek Compensation After Being Injured in a Car Crash in Suffield, CT?

Yes, in Connecticut, passengers hurt in a vehicle crash generally have the right to seek compensation, regardless of who was at fault. If the driver of the vehicle they were riding in caused the wreck, passengers may be able to file a claim against that driver’s liability insurance.

A common misconception that passengers have after being injured in a crash, is that they can’t file a claim if they know the driver personally. Being a friend or family member of the at-fault driver does not disqualify someone from pursuing a claim.

After an injury crash, medical bills, missed work, and ongoing treatment costs can accumulate quickly, and passengers are often uncertain about their options because they were not the ones driving. Connecticut law allows passengers to pursue claims independently, and more than one party may share liability depending on the circumstances.

Suffield sits in Hartford County, a region crossed by several well-traveled routes including Route 75, Route 168, and US-202 to the west. Crashes on these roads and on other winding corridors throughout northern Hartford County , can result in serious injuries for everyone inside the vehicle, not just the driver. Passengers hurt in a crash may face broken bones, head injuries, soft tissue damage, or trauma from being thrown against the interior of the vehicle.
