East Granby, CT (June 3, 2026) – On Tuesday, June 2, two people aboard a Piper Cub were hurt after the aircraft went down shortly after departing from Simsbury Airport in East Granby. The plane came down near Floydville Road on the grounds of Monrovia Nurseries, and both occupants were able to free themselves before help arrived.
East Granby Fire Department reported minor injuries were reported, among them elbow injury and a laceration. Emergency crews had difficulty reaching the site due to the size of the property and multiple access points.
Personnel had to force entry through a locked fence to create a clear path for emergency vehicles. The Federal Aviation Administration responded and is involved in the ongoing investigation. The cause of the forced emergency landing has not been determined.
We wish both people involved a full and comfortable recovery.
