Multi-Vehicle Crashes in Connecticut
Multi-vehicle collisions, like this recent crash, are common on major Connecticut highways due to dense traffic, frequent merging, and unpredictable driving behaviors. These accidents often occur during rush hour when drivers are hurrying home, distracted, or fatigued after a long day.
Common causes of car accidents on Connecticut highways include:
- Distracted driving: Looking at a phone or navigation device takes attention away from fast-moving traffic.
- Tailgating: Following too closely reduces reaction time when traffic suddenly slows down.
- Speeding: Drivers exceeding the limit or failing to adjust to traffic flow often cause chain-reaction crashes.
- Unsafe lane changes: Weaving through lanes or cutting off other vehicles can trigger collisions.
- Weather conditions: Rain or fog can create slick surfaces and poor visibility, increasing the likelihood of multi-car pileups.
- Driver fatigue: Long commutes or late-day driving can lead to slower reaction times and poor decision-making.
Even at moderate speeds, multi-car accidents can cause significant injuries and extensive vehicle damage. Victims often face medical expenses, lost income, and emotional trauma as they recover.
