Hartford, CT (October 7, 2025) – A Hartford woman faces multiple charges after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 84. The crash took place on the Exit 46 on-ramp early Sunday morning, October 5, according to the Connecticut State Police.
Troopers responded to reports of a wrong-way driver just before 2:00 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered that 41-year-old Desiree Garcia had crashed her silver sedan into another vehicle on the ramp. Both drivers reported injuries, and emergency crews treated them at the scene.
Police stated that Garcia showed clear signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test. During a search of her car, officers also found a firearm.
Authorities charged Garcia with failure to carry an operator’s license, reckless driving, operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving the wrong way on a limited access highway, illegal carrying of a firearm under the influence, and reckless endangerment in the second degree.
Connecticut State Police confirmed the investigation remains active.
We wish those injured in this crash a full recovery.
Drunk Driving Accidents in Connecticut
Drunk driving continues to be one of the leading causes of car accidents in Connecticut, often leaving innocent victims injured or worse. These situations often result in catastrophic consequences such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, or even wrongful death.
Drivers under the influence not only put themselves at risk but also endanger everyone else on the road. Wrong-way crashes are particularly dangerous because they often result in head-on collisions with devastating force. Victims can face long hospital stays, costly medical bills, lost wages, and a lifetime of physical or emotional recovery.
Victims of drunk driving accidents may pursue compensation with the help of an experienced personal injury attorney. Damages in these cases may include:
- Medical expenses for emergency treatment, surgeries, and ongoing care.
- Lost wages and reduced earning capacity if injuries prevent the victim from working.
- Pain and suffering caused by physical injuries and emotional trauma.
- Vehicle repair or replacement costs tied to the crash.
