Meriden, CT - Motorcyclist Hurt in Collision on E Main St

Meriden, CT – A serious collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV occurred late Monday morning, July 28, on East Main Street, leaving one man critically injured, according to local authorities.

The Meriden Police Department responded to the 700 block of East Main Street around 10:40 a.m. following reports of a crash involving a motorcyclist and a white Honda CR-V. Witnesses indicated that the motorcyclist had been ejected from his bike and was lying in the roadway upon impact.

When officers arrived, they found an orange Honda motorcycle tipped over in the middle of the eastbound lane. The injured rider, a male, was discovered nearby, having been thrown from the bike during the crash. Meanwhile, the other vehicle involved had reversed into a nearby McDonald’s parking lot, police said.

Due to the severity of the motorcyclist’s injuries, emergency crews initially requested a LifeStar helicopter to be on standby at a local hospital. Ultimately, the rider was transported by ambulance to Hartford Hospital, where he remains in the intensive care unit, police reported.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We hope those hurt in this crash recover rapidly.

Connecticut Motorcycle Accidents

Riding a motorcycle offers a sense of freedom unmatched by other forms of travel—but it also comes with serious risks, especially on Connecticut’s busy roadways. Whether you’re cruising down I-95, navigating urban traffic on Route 2, or taking a scenic ride along local backroads, the reality is that motorcycle crashes happen far too often—and the consequences can be devastating.

Unlike car occupants, motorcyclists have little protection in a crash. Even a minor collision can result in severe injuries such as broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, and lasting emotional trauma. And with Connecticut’s unpredictable weather and heavy traffic, riders face hazards daily.

Most motorcycle crashes share a troubling pattern: another driver’s negligence. Common causes include:

  • Driver Inattention: Motorcycles are smaller and harder to spot, but that’s no excuse. Drivers who text, check GPS, or simply aren’t paying attention put riders in immediate danger.
  • Impaired Driving: Alcohol- and drug-impaired motorists are a constant threat, and when they collide with motorcyclists, the results are often catastrophic.
  • Excessive Speed: Speeding reduces reaction time and increases impact severity—making it especially deadly when motorcycles are involved.

If you or someone you love has been injured in a motorcycle accident caused by another driver’s reckless actions, you don’t have to face the aftermath alone. Medical bills, lost income, ongoing treatment, and physical pain can take a huge toll—but you have the right to seek justice and compensation.
