How Insurance Claims Work in Multi-Vehicle Crashes on I-84 in Hartford, CT
When four or more vehicles are involved in a highway crash, the insurance process that follows is rarely straightforward. In Connecticut, drivers are required to carry minimum liability coverage, but when multiple vehicles collide, multiple policies from multiple carriers come into play simultaneously. Each insurer will conduct its own investigation, and the question of which driver caused the chain of events can be disputed for weeks or months.
Connecticut follows a modified comparative fault system, meaning a hurt person can still recover damages as long as they are found to be 50 percent or less responsible for the crash.
In a four-vehicle collision, fault may be distributed among several drivers, and each person’s share affects how much they may recover. Insurance adjusters representing each carrier will work to minimize their client’s liability, which is frequently at the expense of the hurt parties involved.
A car accident attorney can manage communications with multiple insurers, help document injuries and losses, and work to ensure that a hurt person’s claim is not undervalued in a complex multi-party settlement process.
