Windsor, CT (September 30, 2025) – A recreational outing on the Connecticut River turned dangerous on Sunday afternoon, September 28, when two personal watercrafts collided, sending one man to the hospital.
According to James Fowler, spokesperson for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. just south of the East Barber Drive boat launch. A group had been riding on the river when two operators traveling southbound became separated. One watercraft crossed into the other’s path, causing a collision.
Both riders were thrown into the water. One watercraft sank, and one operator was found face-down and unconscious in the river. Friends quickly pulled him from the water, and he regained consciousness before being taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Officials said he remained overnight for observation.
Emergency personnel safely removed everyone from the water. One watercraft was recovered, while the other is still awaiting retrieval. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
