Windsor, CT (October 5, 2025) – A tragic pedestrian accident claimed the life of a 30-year-old man on Saturday evening, October 4, on Interstate 91 in Windsor. The crash occurred around 7:00 p.m. near Exit 40.
According to the Connecticut State Police, Santiago Jimenez of Meriden had been involved in a prior collision and was standing on the left shoulder of I-91 northbound. For reasons still under investigation, he stepped into the travel lane, where a 2012 Chevrolet Impala struck him.
The impact caused catastrophic injuries. Paramedics provided emergency medical care before rushing Jimenez to a nearby hospital, but doctors could not save him. He later died from his injuries.
Both occupants of the Chevrolet were unharmed. Troopers closed the area for several hours while investigators collected evidence, examined debris, and spoke with witnesses to understand what happened. The Connecticut State Police continue to investigate this fatal crash.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Santiago Jimenez during this heartbreaking time.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Connecticut
Pedestrian fatalities remain a serious concern in Connecticut, especially along busy highways like I-91. When someone steps out of a vehicle after a breakdown or collision, fast-moving traffic and low visibility create extreme danger.
Even one moment of distraction or confusion can lead to tragedy. Dozens of pedestrians lose their lives each year on Connecticut roads, many at night or near major exits.
For families, losing a loved one brings deep emotional pain and overwhelming financial strain. Hospital bills, funeral costs, and the sudden loss of income can be devastating.
Understanding your legal rights is essential during this time. A compassionate wrongful death lawyer can help families seek justice and compensation for their loss.
Families may be entitled to compensation for:
- Emergency Medical Treatment: Families face heavy costs for ambulance transport, hospital care, and emergency treatment.
- Funeral and Burial Expenses: Compensation helps cover funeral services and burial arrangements.
- Loss of Income: Financial recovery replaces the wages and support the victim once provided.
- Pain and Suffering: Families deserve justice for the deep pain and grief caused by their loss.
- Loss of Companionship: The law recognizes the deep void left by a loved one’s absence.
Pedestrian deaths affect entire communities and serve as a reminder of the importance of driver awareness. Motorists should slow down, stay alert, and use caution near disabled vehicles and highway shoulders.
