Manchester, CT (May 14, 2026) – A person suffered serious injuries after falling approximately 20 feet at the rear of 110 Slater Street in Manchester on Wednesday night, May 13. The incident was reported at approximately 7:41 p.m.
Emergency responders arrived to find that the victim had leaned against a fence positioned over a steep vertical embankment. The fence gave way, sending the person falling roughly 20 feet onto a hard surface below. The location was difficult to access, which complicated the rescue effort significantly.
Manchester Fire and emergency units responded with a technical rescue assignment. Crews secured a hoisting system, using a truck ladder as a high point, and built mirrored rope systems to safely raise the victim from the space. The extrication took approximately 30 minutes to complete.
Paramedics packaged and treated the patient at the scene before transporting them to a local trauma center with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported during the rescue operation.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fall.
We extend our sincerest wishes for a full recovery to the victim and their loved ones during this difficult time.
How Does a Premises Liability Claim Work in Connecticut?
A premises liability claim allows an injured person to seek compensation when a property owner’s negligence contributed to their injury. In Connecticut, property owners have a legal duty to maintain reasonably safe conditions for people on their property. When they fail to do so and someone gets hurt as a result, the injured person may have grounds to file a claim.
In these cases, key questions include whether the property owner knew or should have known about the dangerous condition, whether they took reasonable steps to address it, and whether that failure directly caused the injury. If a property owner neglects such hazards, Connecticut law may hold them responsible for resulting harm.
Falls from significant heights often cause serious injuries. Victims may experience broken bones, spinal injuries, head trauma, or internal damage. Some injuries require surgery, extended hospital stays, or long-term rehabilitation. A person hurt in a fall may face mounting medical bills, time away from work, and a lengthy recovery process. These consequences can affect daily life for months or even years.
Connecticut premises liability claims generally require the injured person to show that the property owner was negligent and that the negligence caused the injury. Gathering evidence quickly matters in these cases. Photographs of the hazardous condition, witness statements, medical records, and incident reports all help build a stronger claim. Acting promptly helps preserve that evidence before conditions change or memories fade.
Connecticut also follows a modified comparative negligence rule. This means that if the injured person is found partially at fault, their compensation may be reduced by their percentage of fault. However, as long as the injured person is not more than 50 percent responsible, they may still recover damages. A personal injury attorney can review the details of a specific situation and explain how this rule might apply.
Premises liability cases can involve complex questions about property ownership, maintenance responsibilities, and insurance coverage. A lawyer can help identify who may be liable, review available evidence, and explain what types of compensation may be available. This can include medical expenses, lost wages, and other losses tied to the injury.
